color blocking baby shower

My friend Emily chose the theme of Color Blocking for her baby boy shower, what a creative and novel idea! She has a background in interior design and an eye for modern lines and bright colors. In my research it seems as though Color Blocking has not crossed over from fashion to party decor, so our group of 3 girls throwing the shower had to get creative.

Here are some shots of the shower. I apologize that these are from my iPhone, I unfortunately forgot my camera and only had time to snap a few shots while doing my hostess duties.

As for the food, planned by the amazing Sarah: Roast Beef Sandwiches with Horseradish Creme Fraiche, and Arugula, Watermelon and Feta Salad. The salad was completely delicous, and I plan to make it in the near future. Ina Garten has a similar recipe here. The feta cheese was the best I’ve ever tasted, and Sarah said it was Trader Joe’s Israeli Feta. I’m definitely going to pick some up sometime!

I was in charge of the cupcakes which were designed around the edible color-blocked marshmallow garnish.

These cupcakes were to die for: graham cracker cupcake with marshmallow creme filling, topped with chocolate buttercream. The recipe will be blogged shortly 🙂

This photo doesn’t truly do it justice, but we have a banner and blocks of color made from free paint swatches at Lowe’s. The “floating” palettes are just 2 paint swatches taped together with double-sided tape hung with thread and thumb-tacked to the ceiling. The onesies are for a decorating game.

Here is the color-blocked table setting made with colorful plates and napkins and scrapbook paper as placemats, all topped with a Cutie Clementine (yum). White roses from Kristen (the host’s) garden were the center pieces.

For the game we had a Onesie Decorating Contest where groups of 2-3 used fabric paint pens to come up with creative designs for the little guy. We had some really creative onesie designers!
